Overview

Change your login password and set up a secret question for account recovery if you forget your password.

How to Access: Click My Account then Change password

Note

First-time users will see a welcome screen before accessing the password change form

How to Change Your Password

Change Password Interface

  1. Click My Account → Change password
  2. Enter your Current Password
  3. Enter your New Password
  4. Re-enter your new password in Confirm Password
  5. Click Save
  6. Confirmation: You'll see a success message confirming your password was updated

You'll remain logged in after changing your password - no need to log in again.

Password Fields

Current Password (required)

  • Your existing password
  • Confirms your identity before allowing changes

New Password (required)

  • Your new desired password
  • Must meet security requirements (see below)

Confirm Password (required)

  • Re-enter your new password to prevent typos
  • Must match New Password exactly

Password Requirements

Your new password must meet these criteria:

  • Minimum length: At least 7 characters
  • Uppercase letters: Include at least one (A-Z)
  • Lowercase letters: Include at least one (a-z)
  • Numbers: Include at least one (0-9)
  • Special characters: Recommended (!, @, #, $, %, etc.)

Creating a Strong Password:

  • ✅ Use a unique password for this system
  • ✅ Mix uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters
  • ✅ Avoid personal information (birthdays, names, etc.)
  • ✅ Don't reuse old passwords
  • ✅ Consider using a password manager to generate and store passwords
  • ✅ Change your password every 90 days

Avoid:

  • ❌ Common words or phrases
  • ❌ Sequential numbers (123456)
  • ❌ Keyboard patterns (qwerty)
  • ❌ Personal information easily found online
  • ❌ Sharing your password with anyone

Secret Question Setup

Set up a secret question and answer to recover your account if you forget your password.

How to Set Up Your Secret Question

  1. Create Your Question:

  2. Enter a question in the Secret Question field

  3. Make it something only you would know

  4. Avoid questions with answers on social media

  5. Provide Your Answer:

  6. Enter the answer in the Secret Answer field

  7. Remember the exact spelling and capitalization

  8. Keep it private - don't share with anyone

  9. Click Save

  10. Confirmation: Your secret question is now set up

Choosing a Good Secret Question

Good Examples:

  • "What was the name of your first childhood friend?"
  • "What street did you grow up on?"
  • "What city were your parents born in?"
  • "What was your childhood nickname?"

What Makes a Good Question:

  • ✅ Something you'll always remember
  • ✅ Answer won't change over time
  • ✅ Not publicly available information
  • ✅ Specific enough to be unique to you

Avoid:

  • ❌ Questions with answers on Facebook/social media
  • ❌ Questions with changing answers (current car, favourite movie)
  • ❌ Questions with obvious answers
  • ❌ Information in public records

Answer Tips:

  • ✅ Remember exact capitalization (answer is case-sensitive)
  • ✅ Remember exact spelling
  • ✅ Don't use common misspellings
  • ✅ Keep it simple enough to type correctly under stress

How to Update Your Secret Question

If you've already set a secret question and want to change it:

  1. The current question will be displayed
  2. Edit the Secret Question field with your new question
  3. Enter the new answer in Secret Answer
  4. Click Save
  5. Confirmation: Your secret question has been updated

Using Your Secret Question

If you forget your password:

  1. Go to the login page
  2. Click Forgot Password
  3. Enter your username or email
  4. Your secret question will be displayed
  5. Enter your answer exactly as you set it (case-sensitive)
  6. If correct, you'll be able to reset your password

Common Tasks

Changing an Expired Password

If your password has expired or an administrator requires you to change it:

  1. You'll be redirected to the Change Password page automatically
  2. Enter your Current Password
  3. Enter a New Password meeting the requirements
  4. Confirm your new password
  5. Click Save
  6. You'll be able to access the system normally

Recovering Access After Forgetting Password

  1. Click Forgot Password on the login page
  2. Enter your username/email
  3. Answer your secret question
  4. Follow the prompts to create a new password
  5. Log in with your new password

Troubleshooting

"Current password incorrect"

How to Fix:

  1. Check that Caps Lock is off
  2. Verify you're typing the password correctly
  3. Try typing it in a text editor first to see what you're entering
  4. If you can't remember your password, use Forgot Password on the login page

"New passwords do not match"

How to Fix:

  1. Clear both the New Password and Confirm Password fields
  2. Type your new password carefully in New Password
  3. Type the exact same password in Confirm Password
  4. Make sure there are no extra spaces at the beginning or end

"Password does not meet requirements"

How to Fix:

  1. Make sure your password is at least 7 characters long
  2. Include at least one uppercase letter (A-Z)
  3. Include at least one lowercase letter (a-z)
  4. Include at least one number (0-9)
  5. Consider adding a special character (!, @, #, $, etc.)

Example of a strong password: MyPass24!

Secret Question Shows "REMOVED"

What This Means: Your previous secret question was removed for security reasons.

How to Fix:

  1. Enter a new question in Secret Question
  2. Enter your answer in Secret Answer
  3. Click Save
  4. Your new secret question is now active

Can't Remember Secret Answer

What to Try:

  1. The answer is case-sensitive - try different capitalizations
  2. Check for spelling variations you might have used
  3. If you still can't remember, contact an administrator for a password reset

Password Security

  • ✅ Change your password every 90 days
  • ✅ Use a different password for this system than other websites
  • ✅ Never share your password with anyone
  • ✅ Don't write your password on sticky notes
  • ✅ Use a password manager to remember complex passwords
  • ✅ Log out from shared computers

Secret Question Security

  • ✅ Choose a question with an answer only you know
  • ✅ Don't share your answer with anyone
  • ✅ Remember the exact way you typed your answer
  • ✅ Update your secret question if the answer becomes public knowledge

Account Protection

  • ✅ If you see unexpected login activity, change your password immediately
  • ✅ Report suspicious activity to an administrator
  • ✅ Don't save your password in browsers on public computers
